SLBC tunnel rescue efforts get robotic support

Rescue operations at the SLBC (Srisailam Left Bank Canal) tunnel were intensified further on Tuesday as a Hyderabad-based private firm deployed robotic support to explore the challenging conditions inside the tunnel. The robot entered alongside the rescue team to assess the situation and determine the feasibility of reaching a second critical point where additional workers are believed to be trapped.

The operations at the accident site have drawn more attention in the day, with over 110 personnel from different agencies along with the new addition of a technical team from the Hyderabad-based ANVI Robotics deployed in the first shift. These robots are equipped with high resolution cameras, infrared sensors, and robotic arms, enabling the team’s participating rescue mission.

The



operation’s main objective is to reach the second point, identified through the combined efforts of cadaver dogs and ground-penetrating radar (GPR). Recognizing the need for advanced assistance, the government has allocated RS 4 crores specifically for robotic services. The progress of the mission will be reviewed today by the Irrigation Minister during his visit to the tunnel. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is expected to join the review virtually.

Rescue efforts are being spearheaded by the Singareni Collieries Company Limited and National Disaster Response Force teams, supported by specialized rat miners. Simultaneously, the removal of the tunnel-boring machinery wreckage, which remained a critical component of the ongoing efforts, reached an advanced stage.
