Acting quick on a report published by Metro India highlighting the ‘bizarre’ situation of traffic at Masab Tank road, authorities have now come up with a smart experiment.
A traffic diversion has been put up for commuters at Masab Tank junction, such that those travelling from Vijayangar Colony, Shantinagar Colony and AC Guards Hockey Ground need not wait at the painfully long signal at Masab Tank junction anymore.
They are required to take a left turn and then a U-turn from below
the Lakdikapul-Masab Tank flyover to proceed towards Banjara Hills or Lakdikapul. This is in effect since December 30 on a trial basis for one month and only in non-peak hours, which is from 12 pm to 4 pm.
It was reported in these columns a week ago that traffic moving from Vijayanagar Colony to Banjara Hills on Rai Janakiprasad Road has to stop for as long as 10 minutes at the Masab Tank Junction which runs on a 180-second cycle but stays green only for 30 seconds.
This was creating a traffic halt all the way from the junction to St Ann’s Girls High School half a kilometre away. The problem would be addressed shortly if the new experiment of the traffic police yields good results.
