Telangana Jagruthi and United Phule Front along with BRS legislators urged Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar to install a statue of Mahatma Jyothirao Phule in the Telangana Assembly premises by April 11, marking Phule’s birth anniversary.

Accompanied by BRS legislators, members of Telangana Jagruti and United Phule Front, BRS MLC K Kavitha submitted a petition to the Speaker on Wednesday, citing Phule’s contributions toward social equality and upliftment of

backward classes. She stated that installing the statue would honour his legacy and serve as a constant reminder of his ideals to legislators.

Kavitha said various social organisations and the BC community have long demanded the installation of Phule’s statue and reiterated her previous request made in January 2023. She also recalled that Dr B.R. Ambedkar’s statue was installed in the Assembly in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, due to efforts of Telangana Jagruthi.
