Speed Limit Increased to 80 kmph on Main Access Road to RGIA

Passengers travelling to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at Shamshabad on the six-kilometre stretch from the Galaxy Gate entrance from the NH44 side —beginning of the airport jurisdiction — can travel at 80 kmph from Tuesday.

Cyberabad police issued orders upgrading the speed limit from 60 kmph to 80 kmph and it applies on the stretch till the airport rear gate —end of airport jurisdiction — on the Srisailam highway side.

RGIA traffic police station house officer K. Raju after conducting a physical examination and technical inquiry on the flow of the traffic on the access roads submitted  a report stating that there would be no traffic issues to increase the speed limits on the main access road from Galaxy main gate to RGIA rear gate and that the road surface is in good condition with proper drainage system.

Raju said, "The traffic police along with the National Academy of Construction and engineers inspected the road and calculated the traffic flow on the main access road (MAR) and



came to the conclusion that the speed can be increased from 60 kmph to 80 kmph on the six-km stretch."

"The decision to increase the speed was taken by Cyberabad police commissioner Stephen Raveendra after our team submitted a ground report," Raju said. The decision was made for the convenience of passengers to reach RGIA.

Cyberabad traffic police on Monday said that motorists exceeding the 80 kmph speed limit would be penalised.

The inspection was conducted after K. Sanjay Kapu Raju, vice-president, RGIA Shamshabad, in November filed a request with the Cyberabad police to increase the speed limit from to 80 kmph on the road. He also stressed on the enforcement system on the main access road at RGIA.

The road is 60 feet wide with central median and proper illumination. The traffic police have erected the revised speed limits boards on the stretch and identified the location for installation of the automatic speed enforcement system.
