Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi had allocated a portion of his MPLAD funds to the HMWSSB to take up new pipeline work in six localities to provide better supply of potable water to residents. The funds were allocated a few months ago. Though the Hyderabad district collector had given the administrative sanction, the water board did not start the work. The reason cited for the delay in the execution of the important pro ject is calculation of GST. The MP on Sunday appealed to the managing director of the water board in a tweet to speed up the work as it was sanctioned in April this year.

About 3,000 residents have been waiting for the last eight months for the works to complete. Owaisi had earlier reminded

the water board about the pending works, but to no avail. The cost of the total works is Rs 47.75 lakh.“It is true that works were not taken up due to implementation of goods and service tax. In fact, we do not have clarification about GST percentage -whether it is 19% or 12%. Now, it is clarified that 18% GST has to be added to civil works. Unless, GST calculations are done, we cannot invite tenders,“ HMWSSB general manager (O&M Division-I) V Vinod Bhargav said.

He said the water board had completed the process of GST calculations. The board will give administrative sanction in a day or two. Once the proposal is approved by the managing director, tenders will be invited.
