Stop issuing challans to autos and 2-wheelers: Akbaruddin Owaisi

AIMIM floor leader and Chandrayangutta MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi found fault with the city traffic police for focusing more on imposing challans on motorists by hiding in road corners and taking photos of motorists rather than on regulating traffic.

Speaking in the Legislative Assembly on Saturday, Owaisi urged the state government to consider waiving off challans of at least two wheelers and autos as people from middle and poorer sections were already burdened with higher fuel prices.

"Traffic police are supposed to regulate traffic on roads. But we see traffic police hiding at road corners busy taking photographs of motorists to slap challans," he said.

Meanwhile, Owaisi took exception



to the state government ignoring issues concerning NRIs.

"The NRI cell in Secretariat has become non-functional. Thousands of people from Telangana, who left for Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and other Gulf countries are returning home due to restrictions imposed by those countries on employment. But the government is not taking care of their welfare. Sadly, there is no NRI affairs minister in the cabinet now. now."

Owaisi wondered whether agencies like Lok Ayukta, ACB, Vigilance Commission and Vigilance and Enforcement Directorate were doing anything to check corruption by officials. He demanded a data on the number of culprits who have been booked and action taken thereof.
