Sushma Swaraj, on Tuesday launched a new scheme wherein people can apply for a passport anywhere in the country. This, irrespective of whether the present residential address, specified in the form, falls within the jurisdiction of the selected Regional Passport Office (RPO) or not.
The scheme was hailed by RPO officials in Hyderabad who also lauded the minister’s decision to launch a mobile app — mPassport seva app — to help passport seekers apply, pay and schedule appointments for services on their
smartphones.
“It is a paperless method and can help people apply for a passport even while travelling. The applicant, however, has to visit the PSK with all documents to process his/ her application,” said regional passport officer, E Vishnu Vardhan Reddy who was awarded by Swaraj for overall performance and issuance of more than five lakh passports annually, under category ‘A’. DGP M Mahender Reddy was also honoured for best performance in passport verification and delivery.
