Hyderabad: Cyberabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar said the four suspects in the Shadnagar rape-murder case had first tried to divert the attention of the police when they visited the spot for scene reconstruction and then had snatched two pistols from the police personnel before opening fire. The police had warned them to drop the weapons, which they did not head to, leading to an exchange of fire.
Addressing the media, a few metres away from the encounter site, Sajjanar said following the court’s order, the four was taken into police custody on Wednesday. They were interrogated for two
days.
“As we had to extract more details from them and scene reconstruction had to be done, we brought them to Chatanpally. They started misleading and diverting the police team. Within seconds, Arif and Chennakesavulu snatched the weapons and aimed at us. We warned them, but they did not hear and the officers had to open fire,” Sajjanar said.
After a brief exchange of fire, firing from the other side had stopped and when we checked, the four were dead. Two officers, a Sub-inspector and a police constable were injured, though not bullet wounds.
The Commissioner said a case would be booked and investigated.
