The Centre must purchase paddy for Yasangi season from Telangana, failing which the BJP-led government would face the wrath of farmers, warned Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav. He demanded that the BJP leaders stop their doublespeak and rise to support farmers.
Participating in the Rythu Maha Dharna organised by TRS in solidarity with farmers at Dharna Chowk here on Friday, Srinivas Yadav reminded that history had proved that no government which made the farmers cry had ever prospered. While the TRS government in the State initiated numerous programmes to turn agriculture into a profitable profession for farmers, the BJP-led Union government appears to be determined to push the farmers back into debt trap.
“Due to the initiatives of the K Chandrashekhar Rao government, farmers have progressed and turned the State into Rice Bowl of India by increasing the cultivation area in the last seven years. It is wrong on part of the BJP leadership to resort to doublespeak for their political gain.
While the BJP-led Central government is refusing to purchase paddy from Telangana and continues to buy it from Punjab, the State leaders are encouraging
farmers to cultivate paddy, promising that the State government will be made to purchase their produce,” he said.
The Minister insisted that the BJP State leaders stop making remarks contradictory to the Centre’s instructions and instead, prove their commitment towards farmers’ welfare by getting necessary purchase orders from the Union government. The BJP State leaders who have no say in the Centre, were trying to put the blame on the State government by making false promises to farmers.
He strongly objected to the personal abuse of BJP leaders against Chief Minister Chandrashekhar Rao as well as State Cabinet Ministers. He reminded that it was the Chief Minister who came to the rescue of farmers and procured entire paddy yield during the Covid-19 pandemic, though the Union government was not inclined to purchase entire crop.
Home Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali, Government Whip Arekipudi Gandhi, legislators Surabhi Vani Devi, MS Prabhakar, Danam Nagender, Maganti Gopinath, Kaleru Venkatesh, Mutha Gopal, D Sudheer Reddy, and other TRS leaders participated in the protests, along with dry paddy saplings and placards.
