In an effort to clear doubts of the Congress Legislature Party leader Bhatti Vikramarka about the construction of over one lakh two bedroom houses in the greater Hyderabad area, Minister for Animal Husbandry Talasani Srinivas Yadav took him and former MP V Hanumanth Rao for a visit to some of the houses on Thursday. The Minister was responding to a heated discussion in the legislative Assembly in which the CLP leader expressed doubts about the claim of the government about its flagship programme.
The Minister arranged for the tour and picked up the CLP leader from his home in the morning. They visited 2 bed room houses built in Jiyaguda, Gode Khabar, Kattela Mandi, CC Nagar, Indira Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar, Kollur and Bansilalpet and they will be visiting more houses on Friday.
Speaking to media after the first round of their visit, the Minister said that the houses that they have visited are designed by the Chief Minister himself who felt that it is inhuman for the earlier government to make the poor live in
congested and cramped single room dwellings. “Unlike the earlier schemes these houses are 100 per cent free and most of the beneficiaries are from weaker sections,” he said.
He said that the government is spending Rs 10,000 crore on this project in the greater Hyderabad area alone. However, he pointed out considering the size of the project and the nature of the work, it takes time to complete the target at hand.
Bhatti Vikramarka said that he will react about the visit only after completing the second part of the tour on Friday. He said that he visited 3,428 double bed room houses on Thursday. “Most of the houses we saw today are built after dismantling the old ones. Our structural engineering team is also looking into the quality of the construction. I will respond only after completing the visit to 1 lakh houses,” he said. He alleged only 400 new beneficiaries were given houses in the area where the Minister and the Congress team completed their visit.
