The Greater Hyderabad
Municipal Corporation has decided to extend the proposed tramway project from
2.3 km to 10.5 km.The proposed tramway in the first phase will come up from
Tank Bund to Madina near Charminar. According to Mayor B Ramamohan, the tramway will ultimately cover 25 km
under GHMC limits and it will be build at a cost of Rs 1,050 crore.
It is modelled on the lines of the tramway in Bordeaux, France, that the French delegation, which had visited the city, was keen to invest in the tramway project. The highly sophisticated trams would be equipped with permanent magnet motors to reduce energy consumption.
The project would
require minimal land acquisition or no land acquisition.

civic body.
