A day after the Water Tankers Owners' Association called for an indefinite strike, the bandh was called off on Sunday after the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) agreed to the demand of an increase of `100 on domestic and non-domestic water tankers.
In response to the strike call on Saturday, 800 water tankers had stopped supplies. However, keeping in view problems being faced by consumers, HMWSSB authorities invited association representatives for talks to resolve their demands.
“After talks that lasted nearly an hour, we decided to
accept the demand to increase the commission of `100 for both domestic and non-domestic water tankers,“ HMWSSSB director revenue B Vijay Kumar Reddy, who took part in discussions, on behalf of managing director, told.
On Monday, an agreement between the HMWS&SB and the Water Tankers' Owners Association will be signed regarding the increase of commission, he said.
“We have asked the association to resume water supply to slums on priority basis because we have been supplying free tankers to meet demand,“ said the water board official.
