Tax collection boost in Telangana after demonetization of old notes

In Telangana, the Municipal and Panchayat Raj agencies earned good amount through their tax collections yesterday after the demonetized 1,000 and 500 rupee notes were allowed for payments of taxes and bills. The fund-strapped agencies like Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Hyderabad Metropolitan Board for Water Supply and Sewerage (HMWSSB) have opened special counters for receiving tax payments through the high denomination notes.

style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">The GHMC received around Rs 55 crore of property tax and other taxes in one day as the Citizen Services Centres and e-Seva centres worked till midnight. The HMWSSB also received over Rs 17 crore in a single day. The Panchayat Raj agencies at village level received about Rs 6 crore property taxes and other service charges after intensive public announcements made in villages.
