Telangana advocates to resume work from today

The Telangana High Court Advocates Association (THCBA) has decided to resume court work from Monday, after staying away for five days to protest against the transfer of Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar to the Punjab and Haryana High Court as a junior judge.

With the assurance from Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi that the Supreme Court Collegium would consider the objections raised by the Telangana state advocates, the THCBA on Saturday decided to call off the boycott.

A delegation of five senior advocates along with Mr Surya Karan Reddy and secretaries met Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Union law minister   Ravi Shankar Prasad on September 5.           

“The Chief Justice of India has given us a patient hearing for about one hour and assured



us that he will look into the matter,” THCBA president T. Surya Karan Reddy told mediapersons.

Following this, the association members assembled  in the association hall and unanimously decided the continuation of protest was not warranted and decided to resume court work from Monday, he said. He thanked all bar associations in the state, the AP High Court Advocates Association, the  Madanapalle Bar Association and other associations in AP.

All advocates had boycotted court work to protest the transfer of Justice Sanjay Kumar, the second senior-most judge in the Telangana High Court to the High Court of Punjab and Haryana in the 12th position of seniority. The advocates wanted him to be elevated to Chief Justice of a High Court.
