Hyderabad: The State government has allocated Rs. 5,790 crore for the Home department in 2018-19 Budget, which is around Rs 1,000 crore more when compared to last year’s budgetary allocation of Rs 4,828 crore.

Disclosing details while delivering the budget speech in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday, Finance Minister Etela Rajender said after the formation of Telangana, the government had taken up the task of modernising the Police Department completely besides strengthening it with adequate staff, vehicles and modern equipment.

He said for decades, Telangana society had suffered disturbances of one kind or the other adversely affecting law and order. After the formation of

Telangana, for the first time, peace and tranquility prevailed in the State. Rajender said the effective functioning of the law and order machinery in controlling crime was an equally important reason.

The Minister said many reforms were introduced in the Police Department such as establishment of seven Police Commissionerates to bring police services closer to people. Further, 27 new police sub-divisions, 29 circles and 103 police stations were also established in the State.

He said the government responded to the plight of the home guards who, at the time of formation of the State, were being paid Rs 9,000 per month. The State government had enhanced their remuneration to Rs 20,000 per month.
