The Telangana Assembly on Tuesday passed three bills, Telangana Value Added Tax (Amendment) Bill 2017, Telangana Value Added Tax (Second Amendment) Bill 2017 and the Telangana Excise (Amendment) Bill 2017.
The amendment to the first bill empowers excise and prohibition officials to go back to previous six years into the tax payment records of dealers for verification purposes as against the four-year limit under VAT 2005
Act.
The amendment to the second bill enables the government to incorporate the words ‘draught beer’ in addition to bottled beer, thereby legitimising the manufacture and sale of draught beer. The government had given licence to 11 micro breweries earlier.
The amendment to the third bill was required after the formation of 21 new districts to define new boundaries for excise staff, among other reasons.
