Telangana Assembly Passes Rejected Bills

Sat 05 Aug 2023, 12:06:26
The Assembly late on Friday introduced and passed the four bills in the Legislative Assembly that were rejected by Governor Tamilisai Soundarajan earlier, and referred them back to her for re-consideration. The four Bills were passed through a voice vote.

With the government passing the same Bills for a second time on Friday and sending for reconsideration, it was stated that the Governor would be duty bound to give her approval.

These bills were passed by Assembly in September 2022 and sent to the Governor for her approval. Dr Soundararajan sent the Bills to state government after raising a few queries.

Ministers K.T. Rama Rao, T. Harish Rao, P. Sabitha Indra Reddy and Errabelli Dayakar Rao, who introduced the Bills, urged the Governor to give her assent without delay. The Assembly had first passed the four Bills in September 2022 and the delay had adversely affected various sections of people.

Rama Rao and Harish Rao said that in a democracy the decision of the elected governments was supreme and the

Governor should not block the Bills for political reasons.

These Bills include the Telangana Municipal Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2022; The Telangana Public Employment (Regulation of age of superannuation) (Amendment) Bill, 2022; The Telangana State Private Universities (Establishment and Regulation) (Amendment) Bill, 2022; and The Telangana Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Bill, 2023.

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi raised concern about the fate of students who took admissions in various private universities last year even before the private universities Bill was not approved by the Governor.

CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka questioned the state government's negligence in preventing private universities from making admissions even before the Bill got the Governor's nod.

BJP MLA Etala Rajender demanded reservations for BCs, SCs, STs in private universities and government regulation on admissions and fee structure.
