Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed concern over the excess use of Krishna waters by Andhra Pradesh and directed irrigation officials to be more vigilant in monitoring the withdrawals from Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar Projects. He asserted that installing a telemetry system is the only way to prevent Andhra Pradesh from taking more than its allocated share.

Reviewing the situation relating to water resources in the state yesterday, the Chief Minister asked irrigation officials to ensure the judicious use of water from all projects in Telangana to meet the irrigation and drinking water needs during summer.

An official release stated that the Chief Minister emphasised the need for meticulous planning over the next three months to avoid a water crisis. The

officials informed the Chief Minister that the Andhra Pradesh government had not contributed its share of funds for installing telemetry systems pertaining to water usage. Mr Reddy directed Principal Secretary- Irrigation, Rahul Bojja to write to the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB), confirming that Telangana will pay the entire amount upfront to ensure the immediate installation of the system.

Stating that the allocation and monitoring of water usage between the two states is the responsibility of the Central Water Commission, Mr. Reddy asked officials to complain to the Centre regarding Andhra Pradesh’s unilateral shifting of water. He urged the Centre to intervene and prevent Andhra Pradesh from exceeding its allocated water share.
