Telangana Finance Minister Etela Rajender will be presenting the state annual budget for the year 2018-19 in the Assembly this morning. This will be the last full-fledged budget before the state goes for its next Assembly elections.
This being an election year, liberal allocations is expected to large segments of the electorate like farmers, backward classes, SCs, STs and minorities, who constitute nearly 90 percent of the State population. The Budget is also expected to give an assurance of priority spending on key sectors.
The main focus of the budget will be the farmer-friendly initiatives like Farmers Investment
Support Scheme - called as Rythu Laxmi, 5 lakh rupees insurance coverage to farmers, round the clock power supply and farm mechanisation with provisions of transplantation machines and subsidy on tractors.
The annual budget may go up considerably over the outlay of 1 lakh 49 thousand crore rupees of last year. It will also have substantial allocations for irrigation, energy, health, industry and education sectors.
With the state Government keen on decentralising local self-administration by increasing the number of Gram Panchayats based on population and the same is expected to reflect in the allocations.
