The government is planning to set up the Musi River Corporation for riverfront development. An expressway connecting the eastern and western parts of the city with ORR is also on the cards. An integrated approach will be adopted for the complete elimination of pollution and beautification of Musi river, said Municipal Administration Minister K.T. Rama Rao.
Replying to a question, he informed the Legislative Council on Tuesday that all polluting industries would be shifted from the city to the outskirts. The government was serious about installation of effluent treatment plants by industries. It would study the river project in
Jaipur being executed by the Tata company, KTR said.
He said the Congress government had set up a rubber dam opposite the High Court with the intention of cleaning up the Musi. But the project failed as the rubber dam turned into a breeding ground for mosquitoes due to stagnation of water.
Listing the measures taken for checking pollution, the Minister said the TRS government had served closure notice on eight chemical factories which were polluting the river. The Telangana Pollution Control Board had taken up night patrolling to check effluent discharges. GPRS system was also being used for online monitoring.
