One hundred and forty legislators, including MLCs, in Telangana have much to cheer to take up developmental works with the TRS government recently issuing a GO releasing Rs.260 crore for constituency development programme (CDP) for the year 2018-19. GO No 76, issued by the planning department, said the funds were meant for taking up developmental works in 140 MLA and MLC constituencies.

For the constituencies in the general category, Rs.193 crore was sanctioned, while Rs.41 crore was sanctioned under SC quota. An amount of Rs.24 crore was released under ST category. Sources said the finance department had released the budgetary

provision for the CDP fund.

Sources said Rs.23.50 lakh was sanctioned separately to 20 MLCs, including Akual Lalita, Swami Goud, Kadiam Srihari and Karne Prabhakar, to take up works. MLAs can allocate the fund for works like construction of school buildings, installation of CCTVs and laying of roads in their respective constituencies. The funds are released by collectors once the works are sanctioned. MLAs and MLCs had urged chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to enhance the annual allocation under CDP to Rs.3 crore for each constituency to which the chief minister had agreed.
