Telangana government on Monday entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NABARD for financial assistance in drip irrigation.As per the MoU, NABARD will provide Rs 874 crore loan to the Telangana government for supply of drip irrigation equipment to farmers.
Agriculture Secretary C Parthasarathi and Nabard Chief Managing Director (Hyderabad region) Radhakrishnan signed on the MoU at Nabard office here.“Nearly 42.82 lakh farmers in the State depend upon
village tanks and borewells for the cultivation. For judicious utilisation of groundwater, it is essential to have drip and sprinkler cultivation. The MoU with Nabard further boost the drip irrigation system in the State,” said Parthasaradhi.
He said according to the directions of Chief Minister the drip irrigation facility would be extended to 3.15 lakh acres during the period of 2016-18 with the financial support of NABARD.
