Hyderabad: With the GHMC elections
fast approaching, the government announced waiver of water and power dues of
1,131 notified slums under GHMC limits. To avoid any legal complication since
the election code is in vogue, the government will issue a GO only after the elections
are over.
The State government is planning to
waive off about Rs 130 crore electricity dues and Rs 300 crore water dues.
This, the officials say, will benefit about five lakh residents in the GHMC
limits. This announcement comes close on the heels of the
decision to reduce
property tax from Rs 1,200 to Rs 101. Even in this case, the GO is yet to be
released.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who held a review meeting with the Electricity Board and Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) officials on Thursday, asked the latter to work out details to waive off electricity and water bills in the corporation.
