Telangana government under pressure to deliver six guarantees, post Haryana results

The rumble over the electoral debacle in Haryana and the quagmire in which the Congress government in Karnataka finds itself in over the MUDA scam, seemed to be leaving the Congress government in Telangana in a tight situation. The Revanth Reddy government is now being pushed to a corner over fulfilment of its electoral promises, as the main opposition – The Bharath Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has been upping the ante in its criticism.

The Congress Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had gone to town over his electoral promises of six guarantees assured to people, while his counterpart in Karnataka won the battle at the hustings by promising five guarantees. In Haryana, the Congress came up with seven guarantees but had to bite the dust in the electoral arena. With the Harayana people refusing to believe in the seven guarantees, focus is now shifting to Telangana, where the Congress had only fulfilled a minuscule part of its electoral promises.

Perhaps, the delay in implementation of the electoral promises in Karnataka and Telangana had played a role in Haryana too, with voters refusing to fall for the guarantees.

Simultaneously, the situation in Karnataka is turning adverse for the Congress. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is now booked by the ED in the infamous MUDA scam. There is growing demand for seeking a change of leadership in Karnataka, both from the Opposition groups and also the internal groups in Karnataka Congress now.

With the assembly elections slated to be held in Maharashtra, Delhi, Jharkhand and Bihar, pressure is mounting on Telangana government to perform. This apart, local bodies elections are also fast approaching in the



State.

Considering the State government’s inability to implement the six guarantees, the AICC leadership appears to be worried a lot, especially over the probable impact on the poll prospects in other States.

In Telangana, the Congress had assured to fulfil the six guarantees within 100 days. It has been nearly 300 days, only two sub-components were launched so far out of the 13 assurances under Abhaya Hastham. Similarly, crop loan waiver was to be completed by August 15 and still many farmers are running from pillar to post to get their loans waived.

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) keeps cornering the Congress over its promise to fill up two lakh jobs in one year after coming to power.

Taking a sarcastic jibe at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, BRS Working president KT Rama Rao had said on X “Rahul ji, Youth in Ashok Nagar are waiting to thank you for delivering on 2 lakh jobs in 1 year. Also thank you for the 5 lakh Yuva Vikasam assistance and revamp of TSPSC. Welcome back to Hyderabad to meet with the youngsters since your guarantee is done,”

What is more worrying the Congress leaders’ are the unilateral decisions being taken up by the State leadership. After sidelining the implementation of six guarantees, the State government is embroiled in controversies over HYDRAA demolitions and eviction of residents from River Musi bed, marking houses for demolitions.

In this regard, save for a couple of Ministers, many seniors in the cabinet and in the party, are maintaining a strategic silence over these issues. It appears to be a matter of time before this silence could erupt into open dissidence.
