Telangana Government has begun distributing the financial assistance for Khariff season under Rythu Bandhu Scheme to farmers in the state. On the first day yesterday, an amount of over 640 crore rupees was deposited directly into the bank accounts of over 22 lakh 55 thousand farmers who have less than one acre land. 

As per the official data, under the 11th edition of the contribution, about 70 lakh farmers will be distributed over 7720 crore rupees as financial assistance for their kharif crop. So far, the scheme contributed a total of 72 thousand 910 crore



rupees to farmers’ accounts.
 
The state Agriculture ministry informed that about five lakh new beneficiaries including 1.5 lakh Podu farmers owning 4 lakh acres of Podu lands, will receive 10 thousand rupees per acre per year under the scheme. This will be an additional burden of about 300 crore rupees on the government exchequer. Podu cultivation is a type of shifting cultivation that employs methods like slash and burn. This is extensively used by the tribes living in the forests of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
