The Telangana State Government has begun a special drive to administer Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV) to children below nine months across the state. The state government has included PCV in the list of vaccines administered at Primary Health Centres and Anganwadi centres to protect children from pneumonia, brain fever and other diseases. These vaccines are being given to children of
6 weeks to 9 months in three doses.
State health authorities informed that the vaccines are safe for children. They informed that about 1500 children are being administered PCV, in each district across the state. Four states in the country have included the PCV in the list of vaccines to be given to children.
