Hyderabad: In Telangana, incessant rains continue to lash several parts of the state, especially the northern districts. Normal life has been thrown out of gear in many places. Several streams, rivulets, and rivers are in spate due to heavy rains in the catchment areas. The river Godavari is in spate and water levels at Bhadrachalam were raised to 42 ft by 11 PM last night. Heavy inflows are joining the river from Pranahitha and from Indravathi rivers further downstream. Hyderabad Meteorological Centre predicts more inflows into river Godavari.
Kollur of Macheryal district recorded the highest rainfall of 185 mm till last night. Several Places in Jaishankar Bupalpally, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Peddapalli, and Jagityal recorded heavy to very heavy rainfall during the past 24 hours.
Normal life in Hyderabad has been severely affected due to incessant rains and waterlogging in several places. Several residential areas in the state capital have been flooded with stormwater. Mallardevpally in Hyderabad received the highest 55 mm of rainfall till 11 PM
last evening.
Officials opened 9 gates of the Sriramsagar Project in Nizamabad district and began releasing 25 thousand cusecs into river Godavari as heavy inflows are reaching the reservoir, which has reached its full capacity.
Met Office has warned of heavy to very heavy rains at several places for the next 3-4 days in the state.
The state government has declared three days' holidays for all educational institutions in the state. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao who reviewed the situation urged the people to be alert, especially those who are living close to water bodies as the met officials issued warning of possible floods to some districts.
State authorities have kept the NDRF teams on standby for carrying out relief activities, if necessary. The services of the Air Force also have been asked for in case of any need. Control rooms have been opened at district headquarters and help desks have been opened at all municipalities to meet any exigencies.
