In Telangana, the State Government has initiated action against private hospitals that are reportedly overcharging for treatment for COVID-19 patients. The State Director of Public Health Srinivas Rao has barred a private hospital at Somajiguda in Hyderabad from treating COVID-19 patients following multiple complaints about over-charging. The decision has been notified last evening after holding an enquiry into the multiple complaints about fleecing of patients.
Telangana Government has fixed certain price
ceilings for private hospitals for treating COVID-19 patients. As per these ceilings, the ICU room with ventilator should not be charged more than 9,000 rupees per day. However, there were many complaints from patients and their families that the private hospitals are exorbitantly charging for COVID treatment. After receiving complaints, the State Public Health authorities have, for the first time taken action against a private hospital by barring it to treat COVID patients further.
