The State government on Friday notified crops and areas for implementation of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and also Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS) in 32 districts during Kharif 2019 and Rabi 2019-20.

Agriculture Insurance Company of India Limited and IFFCO Tokyo GIC have been chosen to take up the insurance schemes in the State. Farmers also can opt for Unified Package Insurance Scheme (UPIS) as part of PMFBY and RWBCIS, providing additional security including accidental insurance to the policy holder. The UPIS will be implemented in Nizamabad district on a pilot basis.

On Friday, three orders were issued by the State government providing guidelines for implementing the schemes in the State. Accordingly, fresh cut off dates have been fixed for different crops to be cultivated during Kharif and Rabi seasons this



year.

Under PMFBY, crop insurance coverage will be provided to the crops of rice, black gram, jowar, soybean, maize, groundnut, red gram, turmeric and green gram for Kharif 2019 and rice, bengal gram, jowar, groundnut, maize, sunflower, green gram, red chilli, black gram, onion and sesamum for Rabi 2019. Similarly, red chilli, cotton, oil palm, sweet orange and tomato during Kharif 2019 and mango as well as tomato under RWBCIS where tomato crop will be implemented in Rangareddy and Adilabad districts on pilot basis.

The insurance coverage will be provided for loss of crop due to hailstorm, cloud burst and natural fire. Insurance companies have been advised to enroll 10 per cent more non-loanee farmers than the corresponding season. Farmers have been given 72 hours to intimate crop damage due to localised calamities, instead of previous deadline of 48 hours.
