Telangana govt postpones cooperative polls

The state government has decided to postpone elections to cooperative societies.The cabinet sub-committee that met here on Wednesday has observed that a lot of things need to be completed to go for the elections.

Ministers P Srinivasa Reddy, T Harish Rao, Etala Rajender, J Krishna Rao and Indrakaran Reddy discussed the matter threadbare and decided to recommend a six-month postponement of the election. Accordingly, they have asked



the cooperatives department to issue a gazette order.While the term of 456 cooperative societies ended on January 31, the term of the remaining 427 societies will end on February 3.

The state government also decided to extend the term of state and district level cooperative central banks for six months from February 1. The present executive bodies will continue to hold office till the elections are held.
