Thu 05 Sep 2024, 11:07:55
Floodwaters in several parts of Telangana began to recede on Wednesday, bringing some relief as the state experienced a break from the intense rainfall that had lashed the region for the past four days. While many districts witnessed moderate to heavy rains, the intensity of the downpour was significantly less compared to the past few days.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) provided further relief, predicting only light to moderate rainfall across most parts of the state until 8.30 am on September 8. However, it warned of very heavy rainfall at isolated places in the undivided districts of Khammam, Adilabad, and Warangal during this period.
The state government swiftly shifted focus to relief and restoration efforts in the flood-affected areas. Authorities have begun

distributing immediate financial assistance of Rs 10,000 to each household impacted by the floods. Essential commodities, including rice, pulses, and vegetable oil, are also being supplied to the affected families.

In addition to relief distribution, the government has initiated repair works on critical infrastructure. This includes repairs of 51 bridges, 249 culverts and 166 tanks across the state. Efforts are also underway to restore connectivity, with repair works initiated on 587 roads across 32 districts. Ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Tummala Nageswara Rao, D. Sridhar Babu, Konda Surekha, Danasari Anasuya Seethakka, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Damodar Rajanarsimha toured flood-affected areas on Wednesday and supervised relief measures.
