Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS), Gachibowli, being developed on the lines of PGI Chandigarh offering high-end tertiary health care and research facilities, will be inaugurated in another four to five days.

Health Minister, Eatala Rajender on Wednesday said that the manpower recruitment for the new tertiary hospital-cum-research centre will be completed in another two days. The health department is in the process of recruiting close to 650 clinical and non-clinical staff for TIMS, Gachibowli.

“A few days ago, we had soft-launched outpatient facilities at TIMS. The inpatient facilities and the entire hospital will be inaugurated either on June 28 or 29. This is another unique achievement for Telangana, as we were able to complete the project in a matter of just months,” Rajender said, during an inspection of the facility on Wednesday.

The modern hospital has 1,224 beds out of which 1,000 beds have Oxygen supply and 50 beds with ventilator support.

“The Chief Minister, K Chandrashekhar Rao’s vision was to develop a high-end PG medical research facility that can

provide tertiary medical care facilities to Covid-19 positive patients. We have managed to achieve that vision at TIMS,” he said.

The facility is equipped with a canteen and Covid-19 positive patients need not worry about ordering or making arrangements for food from outside. The furnishing works in all the 15 floors are complete and are ready for occupation.

Health Minister Eatala Rajender urged people with Covid-19 symptoms to walk into the District Hospital in King Koti , Gandhi Hospital or TIMS Gachibowli, and get themselves tested. “Instead of going to private hospitals and ending up paying a fortune, please come to our facilities and make use of them. Mild and asymptomatic patients can stay home and our government health care workers will monitor their health over the phone,” Rajender said.

The Minister urged people not to stigmatise Covid-19 positive cases. “If a family in your neighbourhood tests positive for Covid-19 please don’t ostracise them. If individuals continue to take precautions, there will be no harm to anybody,” he said.
