Telangana Jagruthi will hold a roundtable meeting at Somajiguda Press Club on January 31 to highlight the alleged failures of the Congress government in handling irrigation projects. Telangana Jagruthi founder and BRS MLC K Kavitha will deliver keynote address at the event, titled ‘Water Facts’.
The meeting will see participation from intellectuals, Telangana activists, irrigation experts, and retired engineers. Telangana Jagruthi has charged the Congress government of neglecting key irrigation projects initiated during former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s tenure and spreading misinformation about them.
The organisation aims to counter the government’s claims regarding the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation
Scheme (LIS) and demand a clear roadmap for completing pending projects. It has criticised the Congress for stalling the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy LIS, which could have benefited erstwhile Mahabubnagar and Ranga Reddy districts, and for halting work on the Sitarama LIS after a mere symbolic inauguration.
Further, Telangana Jagruthi alleged that the government lacks clarity on tenders for water distribution under Sitarama LIS and has failed to complete pending works in Kalwakurthy, Bhima, and Nettempadu LIS.
The meeting will also focus on water-sharing issues related to Krishna and Godavari Rivers, emphasising about the previous Chandrashekhar Rao government’s role in establishing a new tribunal for Telangana’s rightful share.
