September is very likely to have normal rainfall as against August, which was the state’s driest month in decades.

Telangana recorded 80 mm of rainfall in August, against the normal rainfall of 217.4 mm, a deficit of 63 per, making it the driest August since 1986, when the rainfall was deficit by 76 per cent.

As of Tuesday, the state’s cumulative rainfall from June 1 to September 6 was 743.5 mm against the normal rainfall of 608.7 mm, with a deviation of 22 per cent, according to the Telangana Development and Planning Society.

The normal rainfall for September is 162.8 mm and it is very likely that it will record a normal rainfall this monsoon. Intense spells have already passed and similar spells have been ruled out for most part of this month.

Vice-president of meteorology and climate change, Skymet Weather, Mahesh Palawat told that, "The rains in the last two days could be

the last intense spell for September across Telangana state. Heavy to very heavy spells are ruled out as of now. There may be another spell between September 16 and 18, as another low pressure area is expected to develop around that time, though the intensity remains unknown".

He further said that there were chances of intense spells in the later part of October, during the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon and setting of northwest monsoons. Until then, scattered rains are likely in the state.

Senior IMD officials said that the state will continue to receive moderate rains across many districts for the next two to three days, after which there will be a brief lull in the rainfall.

"The rains will pick up in the later part of the month as another monsoon trough is expected to develop. September will have a normal rainfall overall", the official told.
