In Telangana, the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) expert team, on Saturday, held a series of meetings with engineers and officials from the irrigation department on various aspects of the construction and maintenance of the Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages of the Kaleshwaram project. Led by Central Water Commission Chairman J. Chandrashekar Iyer, the team has received briefings and questioned them on various aspects of the construction and maintenance of these barrages. 

The team visited the three barrages for the past two days to conduct detailed inspections and returned to Hyderabad for the meetings. It is learnt that the NDSA team will meet with a few more officials who are now retired and representatives of the construction companies. It studied the sinking of piers in Medigadda Barrage and other damages



like the washing away of cement-concrete blocks in the apron area, seepage and leakage of water in Annaram and Sundilla Barrages.

All stakeholders involved in the investigation, hydrology, model studies, designs, construction, quality control and operation and maintenance of the three barrages since 2016 including those in service, transferred and retired have been summoned for the meeting. 

However, some key officials like former Engineer in Chief C Muralidhar, who was asked to resign have reportedly skipped the meeting. The team discussed temporary rehabilitation measures for the three barrages keeping in view the coming flood season. They also held separate meetings with engineers who were engaged in the execution of barrages.
