Finally, the new zonal system proposed by the State government for giving 95 per cent reservation to locals and five per cent for open category in public employment and education will be a a reality soon.
The new presidential order replacing the old one that was in force for 43 years in undivided Andhra Pradesh is expected in a day or two. The Chief Minister, K Chandrashekhar Rao, was successful in convincing the Prime Minister the importance of the zonal system that was revised after debating it threadbare at all levels.
The new system, which will come into effect after receiving the presidential assent, will have seven zones and two multi zones. It is intended to ensure a fair deal to the
locals in both recruitment and transfer of employees.
Jobs for the locals was one of the key issues of the movement for statehood. It is intended to address all the ills of the system implemented in the undivided State. Its need was felt after reorganisation of the revenue administration, increasing the number of districts from 11 to 31.
The proposed new zonal system was approved by the State Cabinet before it was sent to the Centre for the presidential nod. The entire exercise was monitored personally by the Chief Minister and he called on the Prime Minister to explain to him the need for the State according 95 per cent reservation to the locals.
