The Telangana Transport Department is considering bringing in rule that all old vehicles that were registered before April 1, 2019 in the State, must mandatorily be fitted with High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP).

However, though the proposal has been sent to the government, an order in this regard is still awaited, transport officials said.

As per the rule, all vehicles, both two-wheelers and four-wheelers which were registered on or before April 1, 2019 must be equipped with HSRP— a tamper-proof, standardized number plate with advanced security features.

The l date to install HSRP is September 30, 2025.

Consequences of Non-Compliance:

Vehicle owners who fail to comply before the

deadline will face denial of transport-related services (such as transfer of ownership, address change, fitness certificates, etc.).
Additionally, legal cases may be filed and fines or penalties may be imposed for non-compliance.

Why HSRP?
High-Security Registration Plates help in:
– Preventing vehicle theft
– Ensuring uniformity in number plates across the country
– Enhancing road safety and tracking of vehicles.

What You Should Do:
If your vehicle was registered before April 1, 2019:
1. Visit the official HSRP booking portal (usually provided by the government-authorized vendor).
2. Book a slot for HSRP installation.
3. Get the plate fixed before September 30, 2025.
