The Telangana State government unveiled its full-fledged budget for the financial year 2024-25 with a proposed expenditure of 2 lakh 91 thousand 159 crore rupees yesterday. Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka presented the annual budget in the Assembly while Legislature Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu presented it in the Legislative Council. This is the first full budget after the Congress government assumed in December last.
The finance minister emphasised welfare, infrastructure development, and fiscal discipline while allocating major share to Agriculture and its allied sectors. The total outlay includes a total revenue expenditure of 2 lakh 20 thousand 945 crore rupees and a capital expenditure of 33 thousand 487 crore rupees. In his speech, the finance minister said the state government aimed at tackling the financial challenges inherited from the previous government by focusing on financial discipline and debt reduction.

informed that the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) for 2023-24 marked 11.9 per cent increase over the previous year and stood at 14b lakh 63 thousand 963 crore rupees. However, the state’s growth rate of 7.4 per cent slightly lagged behind the national average of 7.6 percent. He said the budget underscored the need for stringent fiscal reforms to ensure economic stability.
The finance minister allocated the Agriculture sector 72 thousand 659 crore rupees, SC Development 33 thousand 124 Cr rupees, ST development 17 thousand 56 crore rupees, Education 21 thousand 292 Cr rupees, BC Welfare 9 thousand 200 Cr rupees, Energy 16 thousand 410 Cr rupees, Healthcare 11 thousand 468 Cr rupees, Development of Hyderabad 10 thousand Cr rupees, Roads & Buildings 5 thousand 790 Cr rupees, Minority Welfare over 3 thousand crore rupees, Industries 2 thousand 762 Cr rupees, Forests & Environment 1thousand 64 crore and Law & Order 9 thousand 564 Cr rupees among others.
