Hyderabad: Looking to improve infrastructure and set up its own facilities across the State, the Road Transport Authority (RTA) has requested the State government for allocation of Rs 37 crore in the upcoming budget.
The RTA is functioning from rented premises at most places and planning to have own buildings, and, has already submitted the proposals to the government for consideration.
Although it has more than 50 office units spread across the State, only 22 are operational from own buildings. Construction works are on for 15 other buildings in different districts while the officials are scouting for appropriate land to set up
own buildings for the rest.
Joint Transport Commissioner J Pandurang Naik said that the request for budget was made to State government. “We need to have own buildings for running the offices without any hassle. For this, we have asked for Rs 37 crore and hope to get a nod from the government,” he said.
At present, RTA offices in Kukatpally, Ibrahimpatnam and Malakpet are among others where the department is depending on rented buildings in the city. Efforts are also being made for revamping and modernising the RTA old office in Khairatabad which was involved in a major fire mishap in its record room last month.
