Telangana to get new dialysis centres very soon: Laxma Reddy

Health Minister C Laxma Reddy on Tuesday announced that the State government will consider establishing new dialysis centres for kidney patients after studying the demands of patients and conducting a study. 

He said that 34 new dialysis centres sanctioned by the government will be set up within a month in addition to around six existing dialysis centres.

Responding to a question during Question Hour in the Assembly, the Minister said that dialysis centres were being set up as per guidelines of National Health Mission with modern and quality equipment. “Unlike other States, we will use single-use filters during dialysis to reduce infection risk for patients. We are also preparing an action plan for taking preventive measures against kidney ailments in the State by studying



the living conditions of patients and taking suggestive measures,” he added.

As part of preventive measures, the government is opening diagnostic centres with modern equipment in all teaching hospitals, district hospitals, area hospitals and also primary healthcare centres.

Laxma Reddy observed that patients were forced to travel for long distances for dialysis which was a painful process that they suffered twice or thrice in a week.  “Now, we have also sanctioned permission for setting up ICU (intensive care units) for kidney patients in 20 Area Hospitals at a cost of Rs 1.32 crore each,” he said. Out of 20 ICUs proposed, seven ICUs have already been opened in Mahbubnagar, Karimnagar, Siddipet, Khammam, Bhadrachalam, Sircilla and Nalgonda.
