Hyderabad: After successful talks with the State government, the truckers called off their nine day agitation here on Friday.

The Transport Minister, P Mahender Reddy, who held third round of talks with the office bearers of Telangana Lorry Owners Association and Transport officials today asked the transporters to restore normalcy and assured to have all their demands resolved.

“After reaching an agreement with the government, we have decided to call off our ongoing agitation,” said N Bhaskar Reddy, President of Telangana Lorry Owners Associations.

During the meeting, the Minister directed the Transport Commissioner, Sunil Sharma to allot 9 acre 37 gunta government land in Pedda Amberpet for establishing highway facility centre ‘Truck Operators Highway Amenity Society’ (TOHAS) exclusively for truck operators.

“Further details of the project will be finalized very soon and the land will be mainly used for parking of heavy vehicles,”



Mr.Mahender Reddy said.

He also asked the officials to identify the land for parking of trucks between Moosapet and Kukatpally for the convenience of truckers.

As per the demand of the association, the government has in principal agreed to scrap slot system in issuing permits, licenses and vehicle fitness.

“Various demands of the truckers including insurance, single permit between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh will be resolved amicably,” the Minister said.

He said that all the Regional Transport Authority check posts in the State will be modernized to facilitate truckers from across the country.

“State government has finally agreed to resolve all our long pending demands and I request all our truckers to call off the agitation in the interest of public,” Mr.Bhaskar Reddy said.
He said the Minister held a detailed discussion and reached an agreement to address their demands.
