Telangana wins Kokapet land title case

Thu 05 Oct 2017, 12:41:02
Supreme Court ruled in favour of Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) in the Kokapet land title case.

The case, which was subject of a fierce legal battle for nearly a decade, saw the government and the HMDA being challenged even after it won the case in the High Court and the argument going right up to Supreme Court. The issue began in 2006-2007, when HMDA attempted to auction 625 acres in Kokapet, beyond the Financial District, and found

itself embroiled in litigation after claims were staked over the ownership of the land.

The fight for the property, on which HMDA wanted to set up a Special Economic Zone for IT companies as well, saw the Telangana government getting several legal luminaries to argue on its behalf. The worth of each acre was said to be around Rs 20 crore. The case was won on Wednesday with the apex court upholding the HMDA’s right over the property, sources said.
