Telugu speaking people across the world are celebrating their Telugu New Year Day Ugaadi today. People are observing the customary festivities with traditional fervour and gaiety. The festival is being celebrated across the two Telugu states Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to mark the beginning of the Hindu Lunar calendar.
People across Telangana are celebrating the Sri ‘Shri Krodhi’ Nama Ugadi of the Telugu Calendar. Besides listening to Panchanga Shravanam, an ancient practice of listening to the New Year forecast, people savour special Ugadi chutney comprising Neem flower, jaggery, salt, sugar cane,
tamarind and mango to indicate six basic tastes.
Meanwhile, Governor C P Radhakrishnan in his message wished the people of Telangana on the auspicious Ugadi and asked people to strive for the all-round development of the state and nation, fostering self-reliance and progress. He appealed to Telugu people to commit themselves to a better future through dedication and service for building a progressive Telangana and a self-reliant India, promoting innovation and entrepreneurship. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy greeted people on the Telugu New Year Day.
