Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Tuesday said 3,811 villages in the State will get drinking water by March under Mission Bhagiratha, a flagship programme of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government aimed at providing drinking water to every household in the State.
By December this year, another 20,366 villages will be added to the water grid, the Chief Minister said, adding that this translates into 9.79 lakh houses getting drinking water supply by March and 42.38 lakh houses by December under the prestigious scheme.
The Chief Minister, who held a meeting at Pragathi Bhavan to review segment-wise progress of the project, instructed officials to coordinate with all departments concerned and ensure that all the works under Mission Bhagiratha are completed on schedule.“There is no dearth of funds for Mission Bhagiratha. Financial institutions have already pledged about Rs 30,000 crore,” Rao said, and urged the officials to put on fast track ground level works. He also directed the officials to obtain clearances from the National Highways Authority, State Highways,
Panchayat Raj roads, railway crossings, canal crossings, rivers and rivulets crossings besides the Forest department. “The district collectors should be asked to play a proactive role in this,” he said.
Emphasising on the need to ensure uninterrupted power supply for the programme, he urged the officials to expedite works on power sub-stations and power lines. “Power should be supplied to intake wells and Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) to ensure supply of drinking water,” the Chief Minister said.
To the Chief Minister’s queries on the status of various works, officials informed him that of the 19 intake wells, 11 had been completed and the others were at various stages but would be completed by March. By April, all the intake wells will be able to pump water, the officials said.
The officials also informed the Chief Minister that works on three of the 50 WTPs had been completed, and that 75 per cent works had been completed in another 10. In 11 WTPs, about 50 per cent of the works was through and 25 per cent works in another 20 WTPs.
