Terrorism has become biggest enemy of mankind: Venkaiah Naidu

The Vice President Venkaiah Naidu said, India is a major stake holder in the promotion of global peace and it firmly believes in peaceful settlement of disputes through negotiations on the basis of international laws and the UN Charter.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of 78th Session of Institute of International Law organized by Nalsar Law University in Hyderabad today he informed that Indian and Asian international law scholars made invaluable contribution to sustain and develop a world order based on commonly shared values and interests.

India's proposal to conclude a comprehensive convention on suppression of international terrorism is now under consideration of the UN, he felt. He said terrorism has become the biggest enemy to mankind, which



is affecting the peace and development of the people and the country. He said India represents a mature Parliamentary democracy with a highly independent judiciary and fourth estate.

India values the contribution of the Institute of International Law in resolving the disputes between countries and to promote treaties. The Vice President further said India is a signatory to many important international treaties, protocols and agreements and adding that they include Convention on Biological Weapons, Chemical Weapons, Chicago Convention on International Aviation and Rights of Child.

India also played an active role in the UN and in the codification and progressive development of International Law during 60s Mr Naidu added.
