The Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) has almost completed the massive exercise of mapping of its power distribution assets, including poles, distribution transformers, conductors, ring main units, and other equipment. Now, it can identify technical faults in power supply at any corner in its vast operational network, spread across 15 districts, and rectify the issue quickly.
It has so far completed the survey of 3,285 KV feeders, 4.46 lakh survey points such as poles, dynamic thermal rating structures, and conductors with GIS mapping. This would strengthen the electricity distribution system in the combined districts of Greater Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medak, Mahbubnagar, and Nalgonda through its mobile app TGAIMS. Teams led by assistant engineers conducted a detailed assessment
of power distribution assets, covering each pole and every transmission cable.
The TGSPDCL in its preliminary survey had identified 12,598 damaged, broken and rusted poles and 1,320 unsafe and unfenced distribution transformers. TGSPDCL allocated a budget of Rs 25.50 crores to rectify the defects. Instructions have been issued to the Superintending Engineers to start the rectification works on a war-footing basis, said
TGSPDCL chairman and managing director Musharraf Ali Faruqui. Musharraf Ali pointed out that it is also mandatory for the staff to take the photos of the repair work, along with GIS coordinates and it must be updated and registered in the app, when the bills are claimed to check misappropriation of funds.
