Karimnagar: Thieves stole five computers and other electronics equipment along with documents pertaining to the Manair River Front (MRF) from the irrigation department office at Thimmapur village near the Lower Manair Dam on Sunday.
The theft occurred late at night. Notably, the CCTV cameras in the office "were not working," police investigating the incident said.
According to the assistant commissioner of Police of Karimnagar district, Karunakar Rao, watchman Kanakaiah closed the office on Saturday after the duty hours. When he reached the office on Monday, he noticed that the office lock was broken and doors were open.
The irrigation department’s complaint to the Thimmapur police station said, "Some persons intruded into the office and stole computers and other electronic items as also some paper files in which the important government data pertaining to various irrigation projects was
stored."
Police officials who reached the irrigation office for investigations listed the loss of five monitors, two CPUs and two printers there. The police made enquiries with all the employees including the incharge superintendent engineer Shiva Kumar.
Shiva Kumar said, "There is no serious problem as such. Complete data pertaining to various irrigation projects have been stored in the hard copy, and copies of these are kept in the head office as also at the circle office-II in Timmapur."
Office superintendent Anji Reddy said important data related to the MRF project works were stored in these computers.
Fears are that the important data of not only various projects but also the Manair River Front project that was taken up at cost of Rs 410 crore was stolen, but that the officials are allegedly "hiding such matters from the police.
