As many as 35,000 women from all walks of life participated in the colourful Maha Bathukamma celebrations at Lal Bahadur Stadium here on Tuesday.
The sprawling stadium wore a festive look as volunteers from different parts of the State put together a 25-feet tall flower arrangement with about 60 small ones surrounding it. The volunteers ensured that the arrangements were in place before the women from different districts arrived. The ground turned into a forest of flowers.
This year, women from 31 districts participated in the Maha Bathukamma
celebrations, which was crafted using millions of marigolds, chrysanthemums and orchids. Last year, Guinness record was made with the participation of over 9,000 women. It is this record that was attempted to be rewritten by Nizamabad MP and Telangana Jagruthi president K Kavitha, who coordinated the event.
The women assembled at the stadium by 4:30 pm and formed circles around the 25-feet Bathukamma, which was set up in the middle of the sprawling stadium. The women danced and sang Bathukamma songs which reverberated and filled the air with festive fervour.
