The Srisailam project continues to receive heavy inflows, forcing the officials to lift three gates and release water to the Nagarjuna Sagar project. About 1.89 lakh cusecs are being released downstream including 79,161 cusecs by lifting the three gates upto 10 feet height for the first time during this monsoon season.
Due to heavy rains in Karnataka, the Srisailam project has been receiving heavy inflows for the past one week with water being received at the rate of 3.48 lakh cusecs on Wednesday. As against the full reservoir level of 885 feet, the water level has reached 881.30 feet. Similarly, about 195.2 tmc water has been dammed in the reservoir against gross storage capacity of 215.8 tmc.
“All the reservoirs in the upstream including Almatti, Jurala and Tungabhadra are brimming to their full capacity. As they too have been receiving torrential rains in their upper catchment
areas, water is being discharging downstream,” the officials said.
While about 3.13 lakh cusecs are being released from the Jurala project, another 53,000 cusecs are being released from the Sunkesula project. However, about 3.48 lakh cusecs are being received in the Srisailam project due to seepages and vapourisation losses.
Of the 1.89 lakh cusecs of outflows, about 31,000 cusecs are being pumped out from the right side power house in Andhra Pradesh and another 40,000 cusecs from the left side power house in Telangana State for power generation. At present, all 13 generators of both power stations were continuing power production. Similarly, 79,131 cusecs us being drawn by Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi irtigation scheme from the spillway along with about 31,000 cusecs being released to the Pothireddypadu Head Regulator.
