TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy on Sunday announced a number of sops for farmers if the party were to come to power in the next elections.
Speaking at a meeting organized by an NGO at Kodad, the Assembly constituency represented by Padmavathi Uttam, his wife, the PCC president avoided taking the name of TRS president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. He also did not resort to any criticism of the government. Instead, he explained only what the Congress has included in its manifesto for the benefit of farmers.
Uttam said farmers would get a loan of Rs.2 lakh at one go and not in phases. He said MSP for farm produce would be fixed more than what the Centre was giving. For this purpose,
Rs.5,000 crore would be included in the budget. He said for instance, mirchi farmers are facing a lot of problems with regard to MSP but the Congress government would fix it at Rs.10,000 per quintal.
He explained that giving a farm loan waiver of Rs.2 lakh would not be impossible as the Telangana state government’s annual budget itself was a huge Rs.2 lakh crore. He said an insurance cover would also be provided to farmers for damages due to natural calamities and the government would pay the premium. Farmers would also get an insurance cover of Rs.5 lakh for treatment in any hospital if they were to meet with any accident. Farmers will also get Rs.5 lakh insurance in the event of death.
